“As long as there is life there is hope”
In 1977 he created his award-winning monument “Korchack With His Children,” in memory of the author and educator Janusz Korchak. In 1978 the monument was installed on the grounds of Yad Vashem, Israel’s National Holocaust Memorial.
Janusz Korczak, a physician and educator in the Warsaw ghetto, devoted his life to the plight of children, regardless of nationality and religion, refusing to abandon his Jewish orphans when they were taken to the death camps of Treblinka in 1942 at the expense of his own life. He is universally considered a saint and a martyr.
I am not here to be loved and admired, but to act and love. It is not the duty of people to help me, but it is my duty to look after the world, and the people in it – Janusz Korczak
